Update: June 3, 2020
Uploaded 12:04 p.m., 6/4/20
- It’s Wednesday, June 3, the 80th day since the Governor’s original
order about COVID-19.
- State Stats: Louisiana has 40,746 COVID-19 positive patients, with 2,724
deaths. Hospitalizations continue to decrease, with only 639 patients
hospitalized as of yesterday, with 83 on vents.
- The Governor announced yesterday that most of the state will enter Phase
II on Friday. Phase II will last a minimum of 21 days. All patient appointments,
surgeries, etc. can resume as normal. The visitation policy WILL NOT CHANGE
in Phase II, and we will continue with social distancing in public areas,
temperature checks and masking for both patients and staff.
- Because visitation will not be allowed, and census is increasing, please
make extra effort to communicate patient status to the designated family member.
- North Oaks Stats: We have 17 COVID-19 positive patients in house, with
2 on vents. We have had an additional 4 deaths in the last 10 days, but
have successfully recovered 188 patients. CMR has 3 positive patients
and Hood has 2 positive patients.
- Employee Wellness reports 9 employees home monitoring, with 9 returned
to work last week.
- In total we have tested 3,179 people, with 554 being positive and 18 results
pending. We have 41 scheduled in the drive-through for today, and did
22 tests on Monday. Michael and Kirsten are evaluating options for the
drive-through testing station to address staffing issues and heat (happy summer!)
- Due to decreased call volume, the COVID hotline will be open M-F, and closed
on the weekend, effective immediately.
- The Main (Signature Building) entrance will continue to be closed on weekends.
- Patient volume across all areas continues to increase. We are averaging
280/day in the ODC, and finished May at approximately 62% of surgery volume,
and will continue to bring additional OR suites online as needed. Clinic
volume is increasing, and will return to normal operations on Monday,
observing social distancing, masking and temp screening.
- LPMC Update:
- LPMC clinics will open Monday for normal hours starting Monday (7 a.m.
– 5 p.m.)
- Livingston Parish diagnostics will be open 2 half-days a week (no MRI at
this time); Mac is working on a plan to reinstate PT/rehab services in LP.
- Infection Prevention reports that due to bed supply, we are sometimes having
to mix COVID-19 positive patients with non-COVID patients on units. These
patients are in private rooms with appropriate signage. Please remember
to enter those rooms only as needed for patient care/safety and use PPE
as appropriate. If you have any questions, contact Infection Prevention
or Dr. Newman.
- Reminder to check your own temperature daily before work, and get confirmation
at one of our temp check stations when you arrive for your shift.
- Staffing is good – leaders are still flexing to volume, and working
to return employees with low PTO balances. Please check with HR if you
have a staff member with low PTO who would like to work, but is being
flexed off due to volume. We may be able to provide some hours for them.
- Supplies of normal PPE is good, and demand seems to be leveling out. We
continue to work the supply chain for Level 3 – 4 surgical PPE,
but no immediate issues.
- Tropical Storm Cristobal is expected to make landfall between Saturday
and Monday. We are monitoring closely, but at this time we do not believe
it will be necessary to officially open shelter in place. Any individuals
with specific needs should work with Kirsten or Terri. Leaders are asked
to check their Hurricane boxes, and be sure you have identified your teams
of essential personnel.
- Our weekly updated will continue every Wednesday through Phase II, then
we will reassess.
