Update: August 13, 2020

  • COVID by the Numbers:
    • State Stats: 134,304 cases; 4,238 deaths; 1,320 hospitalized (trending slightly down), with 211 on vents (trending slightly down.)
    • North Oaks Stats:
      • NOMC: 35 positive cases in-house (down 1 from Tuesday), 8 on vents (same as Tuesday.) We’ve recovered 397 patients (up 6 from Tuesday.) Fortunately, we have had no COVID-related deaths since last week.
      • NORH: Census is 18; 0 positive cases.
      • Hood: Census is 15; 3 positive cases.
      • We have tested a total of 9,926 patients, with 1,767 positive and 286 results pending.
      • The drive-through testing station remains closed.
      • The COVID Hotline received 51 calls yesterday, and conducted two video visits. The COVID-19 HOTLINE will be operating from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., 7 days/week beginning today.
      • The ‘return to work’ clinic function is transferring to the Walk-in Clinics (all three) starting today.
  • Dr. Peltier will continue weekly updates on Northshore Broadcasting the next two Thursdays, and then we will reassess communication needs moving forward. He observes that while hospitalizations are stabilizing statewide, in Tangipahoa parish we’re seeing numbers creep up. Remember that the simple things are the best and most effective protection: Wash your hands, wear a mask appropriately and maintain social distancing.
  • Clinic and outpatient volume is steady. Surgery continues to be busy.
  • Employee wellness reports 41 employees and 1 student are out monitoring symptoms; 8 are RNs and 2 are respiratory therapists. Three employees have returned to work since Tuesday.
  • Kirsten reports staffing continues to be tight. Many thanks to our nursing staff for stepping up to ensure we have sufficient coverage. The good news is that our new nursing grads will be on board in about two weeks, and will certainly provide some relief.
  • Please help us conserve PPE when possible, especially N-95 masks and gloves. If you have any questions about use of PPE during aerosol generating procedures at the bedside, please call Amanda in Infection Prevention. Also, if patient status changes or when turning over a room, remember to remove the signage on the door. That will help preserve PPE as well.

Lastly, remember that this “new normal” is anything but. As the pandemic continues and kids go back to school, additional stressors crop up. Remember that our Employee Assistance Program is easily reached at 1-800-749-3277. This program provides free, confidential, professional assistance to help employees and their families resolve problems/issues that affect their personal lives or job performance. CONFIDENTIALITY IS ASSURED.

And on a non-COVID related note, please check the greetings on your voice mail to ensure they are up-to-date.
