Volunteer

Anyone can volunteer. Volunteers are caring people who want to enrich lives – their own and those of the people they touch. Never has there been such a need for caring as there is today. No experience or prior training is necessary.

Many volunteer opportunities are available through the Volunteer Services Department of North Oaks. From the Gift Shop to our Same Day Surgery Center, to the men and women who help patients upon discharge, volunteers make a difference at North Oaks. As a volunteer, you choose a position that fits your schedule and that's right for you. Our volunteers range in age from 14 to 80+ and include:

Adult Volunteers

A program for persons over age 18

Student Volunteers

For students currently enrolled in a college program and working toward a health care career. Students should have completed at least two semesters of course work as a full-time student and have a GPA of at least 2.0.

Junior Volunteers

This program offers local teens a unique opportunity during the summer for community service and exploration of medical careers in an environment of commitment and responsibility. The annual Junior Volunteer program is for young adults age 14 through 17, who are sufficiently mature to be a part of the day-to-day activities of a busy health care provider.

Positions are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications must be completed and returned to the Volunteer office by the date specified. Those accepted will be required to attend an orientation session to begin the summer and will be expected to participate throughout the summer.

Medical Careers Shadowing Program

This program is designed for young adults between the ages of 14 and 20. The hospital-sponsored post allows young people who have an interest in health care to study and "explore" the career possibilities available to them through a career fair and scheduled observation of hospital personnel during school holidays.

To request an application, please contact Volunteer Services at (985) 230-6811.

Completed applications can be mailed to:

Hospice Volunteers

Hospice volunteers are special individuals who dedicate their spare time to helping others cope with the death of loved ones. In addition, they are charged with the responsibility of helping the terminally ill die with dignity.

Hospice volunteers perform a variety of duties, dependent upon the needs of the patient and his or her family. They must understand circumstances of family dynamics and are trained to help patients and their family cope during the dying process and after the patient’s death.

If you are interested in becoming a Hospice volunteer at North Oaks, please contact North Oaks Hospice at (985) 230-7620.
