Every traumatic brain injury (TBI) is different, and so is every recovery journey. At North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital, we specialize in treating TBI with a compassionate, individualized approach. Our team provides early, targeted interventions designed to support brain healing, restore function, and help patients regain independence.
While we also recognize that not all TBI cases are the same, some patients may require highly specialized care depending on the complexity and severity of their injury. At North Oaks, we carefully evaluate each patient’s medical stability, cognitive function, and behavioral needs to determine whether our facility is the right fit. While we offer structured environments for patients with significant challenges—such as disorders of consciousness or behavioral dysregulation—there are cases where the severity of the injury may require a higher level of medical or neurobehavioral care. In those instances, we collaborate with trusted external facilities to ensure patients receive the most appropriate and effective treatment for their condition.
Our goal is to help TBI patients return home with confidence. We create customized treatment plans that focus on relearning essential daily living skills—such as speaking, walking, bathing, dressing, and preparing meals. These skills are often impacted by TBI, and our team works closely with each patient to rebuild them step by step.
TBI can affect how individuals interact with others. Our speech-language pathologists and therapists help patients relearn social and communication skills through guided practice and real-life simulations. We help patients understand social cues, express themselves clearly, and rebuild meaningful relationships.
Living with a brain injury can be overwhelming. Feelings of frustration, anxiety, or depression are common. Our care team includes professionals trained to support emotional well-being throughout the recovery process. We provide a safe space for patients to express their feelings and learn coping strategies that promote resilience and hope.
Family members play a vital role in recovery. We offer hands-on caregiver training to ensure loved ones feel prepared and supported. From assisting with mobility and hygiene to managing medications and emotional changes, we equip families with the tools they need to provide safe, compassionate care at home.
Recovery doesn’t end when a patient leaves our facility. North Oaks offers free support groups for individuals recovering from brain injuries, as well as their families and friends. These groups provide a space to share experiences, ask questions, and find encouragement from others on similar journeys.
In addition to our in-house support, we help patients and families connect with trusted community organizations and resources. Our care team provides referrals and guidance to access services such as vocational rehabilitation, mental health counseling, legal advocacy, and educational resources. By bridging the gap between hospital care and community reintegration, we ensure our patients have the tools and support they need for long-term recovery and quality of life.
