Rehabilitation Hospital Physicians Announce 2024 Medical Executive Committee

Four area physicians have been appointed to the North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital Medical Executive Committee for 2024. These committee members will serve as liaisons between North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital's medical staff and its Board of Managers.

Physiatrist Rishi Pathak, MD, is chief of staff and board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He joined the North Oaks medical staff in the fall of 2018 as part of the North Oaks Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Clinic team. Dr. Pathak came to North Oaks from The Johns Hopkins Hospital at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, where he completed his fellowship in spinal cord injury medicine. He earned his medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands on Grand Cayman. Dr. Pathak then completed an internship in general surgery at Exempla St. Joseph’s in Denver and a residency at Detroit Medical Center with the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan through Wayne State University.

Members-at-large (below) include Hospitalist Rainier Batiste, DO; Endocrinologist A. Mannan Khan, MD; and Internal Medicine Physician Susan Zacharia, MD.

Dr. Batiste joined the Hospital Medicine Department at North Oaks Medical Center in 2017. She earned her medical degree from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She then completed an internal medicine internship and residency through Danville Regional Medical Center in Virginia and is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. From January 2022 to December 2023, Dr. Batiste chaired the Medicine Department for the North Oak Medical Center Medical Executive Committee.

Dr. Khan, who is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, joined the North Oaks medical staff in 2017 in practice with North Oaks Endocrinology. A graduate of Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, Dr. Khan completed an internship in internal medicine at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport. He then returned to New Orleans for his residency in internal medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and fellowship training in endocrinology at Ochsner Medical Center.

Dr. Zacharia earned her medical degree from the Universidad Tecnologica de Santiago in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She then completed an internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Zacharia is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 1995, she joined the North Oaks medical staff in practice with Northshore Internal Medicine Associates.

North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital is located at 1900 S. Morrison Blvd. The 27-bed inpatient medical rehabilitation hospital is the only facility within a 30-mile radius accredited by The Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). It also is home to one of 10 CARF-accredited stroke specialty programs in Louisiana.

As of the rehabilitation hospital’s latest reaccreditation in April 2022, CARF continues to rank the hospital among the top three percent of 22,000 facilities worldwide for receiving no recommendations for improvement during survey.

Individuals who may benefit from inpatient rehabilitation include those who have experienced a stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury. Patients recovering from a joint replacement or diagnosed with a neurological disorder or arthritis also may qualify.

An 8,000-square-foot treatment area anchors the hospital complete with a kitchen and laundry space for patients to practice daily living skills. The facility also contains a transitional living apartment and therapeutic garden.
