The North Oaks Cardiovascular Institute’s team of experts has expertise
in the following procedures:
-
Cardiothoracic Surgery: Surgery on your heart, lungs, esophagus and other parts of your chest.
Surgeries can range from a heart valve replacement to being part of your
cancer care team for lung or esophageal cancer.
-
Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG): Often referred to as bypass surgery, the CABG is a surgical procedure
performed to locate a blockage(s) that is restricting blood flow in an
artery and graft a harvested vein (typically from the leg) to redirect
blood flow around the blockage.
-
Heart Valve Replacement: This surgical procedure is routinely performed to replace a heart valve
that does not open or close properly. Heart valve replacement can be performed
through traditional open-heart surgery that involves a cut (incision)
in the chest or by using minimally invasive methods, which involve smaller
incisions in the chest or a catheter inserted in the leg.
-
Robotic Thoracic Surgery: This is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove diseased
lung tissue and, in some cases, surrounding lymph nodes. Small instruments
attached to a robotic arm are placed through small incisions between the
ribs. The magnified view and wristed tools allow the surgeon to make precise,
controlled movements to remove lung tissue without making larger incisions
to open the chest or spread the ribs. Robotic surgical techniques can
be used for other chest procedures involving the lungs, esophagus, thymus
and certain cardiac procedures other than lung cancer surgery.
