North Oaks Outpatient Rehabilitation Services

Special Services & Programs

Along with traditional therapies, North Oaks offers a variety of special services to address your specific needs.

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic therapy strengthens and tones muscles through resistance training in the water, which reduces stress on joints. Aquatic therapy is only offered in Hammond. It can benefit individuals with the following conditions:

  • Arthritis and joint pain

  • Balance deficits

  • Circulatory disorders

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Low back pain, including that experienced by pregnant women

  • Muscle spasticity

  • Parkinson’s disease

  • Post-surgical recovery

  • Sensory disorders

Balance/Vestibular Therapy

This form of therapy aims to help individuals with complaints of unsteadiness resulting from inner ear problems, muscle weakness or other issues that affect balance.

Brain and Spine Program

This program aims to improve the strength, coordination and balance for patients with neurological disorders or injuries to the brain and spinal cord. These skills help to increase independence at home and in community settings.

Certified Hand Therapy

This therapy focuses on upper extremities, such as hands or arms, that have become impaired due to injury or disability.

Dry Needling

This is a form of treatment used by physical therapists to remove problem areas in muscles and other soft tissues. It also helps reduce and, in some cases, eliminate chronic muscle and nerve pain.

Pelvic Health

Pelvic health focuses on urinary incontinence (involuntary loss of urine) issues related to pre- and post-pregnancy, age, diabetes, recurring urinary tract infections, post-menopause and abdominal surgery. We also work with patients who suffer from bowel incontinence.

Industrial Rehabilitation

This form of rehabilitation helps injured workers return to work safely and effectively by providing prevention, treatment and education services.

Lymphedema Program

The goal of the lymphedema program is to educate patients about the signs and symptoms of lymphedema (swelling due to a build-up of lymph fluid in the body) and how to independently manage it. North Oaks provides quality treatment options, including therapeutic exercises to improve range of motion and functional use of the involved limb, as well as the use of bandaging, compression garments and manual lymphatic drainage to decrease and maintain appropriate lymphatic limb volume. Patients will learn the importance of skin care and maintaining skin integrity with lymphedema.

McKenzie Method (Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy)

The McKenzie method is a non-surgical approach to manage problems related to the back, neck and extremities.

Prosthetics & Orthotics Clinic

When your physician prescribes prosthetic and/or orthotic devices, we can help determine the best choice for you.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction

North Oaks offers rehabilitation therapy to individuals with problems chewing, biting or other issues related to imbalances of the jaw.

Wheelchair Clinic

Let our therapists and vendors help you select a wheelchair and seating system that best meets your needs.

Women's Health

Here, we offer specialized treatment and education to mothers, mothers-to-be, post-breast surgery patients and women suffering from pelvic pain and incontinence.
