Internal Medicine Residency Program

Rotation Details

Internal Medicine physicians are key providers of comprehensive care for hospitalized patients. Our inpatient-based rotations offer essential, longitudinal exposure to common and complex medical conditions. All first, second and third-year medical residents will undertake rotations at North Oaks Medical Center, gaining invaluable experience in a real-world clinical setting.

During these rotations, residents will:

  • Hone their skills in patient history taking and physical examinations.

  • Develop diagnostic plans and manage a broad spectrum of diseases and medical conditions

  • Encounter rare medical conditions and work closely with specialists across multiple disciplines to coordinate comprehensive care for patients with complex needs

Internal Didactic Learning and Continuity Clinics

Inpatient Medicine Residents participate in a half-day didactic learning session weekly. During these sessions, the hospitalist attending of record will manage any immediate calls or urgent issues.

Residents also attend a four-hour continuity clinic on their designated pre-call day each month. This focused approach ensures they are free from other ambulatory responsibilities, allowing for concentrated learning and patient care during this period.

Note: The outlined schedule and structure are reflective of our operating model as the program advances. In the first two years, owing to the absence of senior residents, our experienced teaching faculty will provide all supervision, adhering to the same educational approach. As residents gain approval from the Clinical Competency Committee for supervisory roles, they will gradually transition into these positions, continuing to receive robust support and guidance from our faculty.
