Nursing Shared Governance involves frontline staff in decisions about care delivery. Nurse Residency Program
This program supports graduates transitioning from the classroom setting into their first professional nursing role. New Graduate Nurses are hired into all clinical areas, including specialty areas.
Program Features
- It is one year in length and supplementary to hospital/nursing orientation and specialty training courses.
- The program includes all RN and LPNs with six months or less of acute care experience.
- Nurses do not have to apply; they are automatically placed within the program, except for those with 1. PRN status or 2. RN with LPN experience. In those instances, the nurse residency coordinator and manager of the hiring unit would discuss the new hire’s experience and the need for the program.
- Seminars are four hours in length and are scheduled monthly. Time is built within the monthly seminars as “Clinical Reflection Time.” This is a time for guided discussions on what is going well and what is not, to identify learning needs, and to support continued growth in nursing practice.
- The NRP provides professional support from experienced nurses, educators, nursing leaders, mentors, and the interdisciplinary team.
