The North Oaks Sports Medicine and North Oaks Orthopedic Specialty Center teams have selected Emma Day of Amite and Levi Carson of Hammond as “Student-Athletes of the 2023 Fall Season.”

Day is a junior at Oak Forest Academy in Amite, where she currently has a 3.9 GPA and plays third base and short stop for the Lady Jackets varsity softball team.

This season, she boasted an impressive .522 batting average, smashed 10 home runs, drove in 49 RBIs and didn't miss a beat with a perfect 17/17 in stolen bases.

The two-time Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 5A All-State selection and Futures Game participant is currently committed to play softball for the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg after high school.

“Emma’s exceptional character personifies everything this award represents. A natural leader both on and off the field, she sets the bar high with an incredible work ethic. Emma's warm heart and genuine nature make her one of the sweetest athletes on campus,” notes North Oaks Sports Medicine Certified Athletic Trainer Amy Brumfield. “She has a knack for lifting her teammates up and offering sound advice. Despite her frequent travels for her high school and travel softball teams, Emma remains committed to maintaining her grades and excelling in class.”

In addition to her athletic and academic activities, Day enjoys spending time with her family and friends, working cattle, hunting, fishing, crossFitting and training to improve her softball performance.

Hammond High Magnet School’s Levi Carson is a senior with a 3.43 GPA who plans to study business in college.

A multi-sport athlete, Carson is captain of the Tors’ cross-country and boys’ basketball teams. He also is a member of the track and field team, and belongs to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Ranked among Louisiana's top 100 cross-country runners, Carson holds a personal record for 3 miles in 16:47. As a three-time Tangipahoa Parish track champion in the 1-mile, he currently holds four Hammond High Magnet School records in cross-country and track and field.

“Coaches can rely on Levi,” shares North Oaks Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer Kacie Edwards. “It’s not uncommon for him to participate in back-to-back practices from one sport to another. Levi consistently demonstrates punctuality by being the first to arrive and the last to leave. He has an impressive ability to connect with others and inspire his teammates to push themselves toward improvement. Best of all, he remains humble – constantly striving to meet new goals without ever settling.”

Outside of his busy high school and sports schedule, Carson is an active member of the Church of God in Robert.

North Oaks Sports Medicine’s Student-Athletes of the Season must have a 3.0 GPA or higher; excel in athletic competition; participate in school and community service organizations; and the respect of coaches, teammates, officials, teachers and their peers.

“Student-Athletes of the Year” will be selected in May 2024 from all fall, winter and spring season honorees.
