Sports Performance Supervisor Akeem Honored as Employee of the Month

Sports Performance Supervisor Akeem has received North Oaks Health System's Employee of the Month Award for August 2022.

Nationally certified Strength and Conditioning Coach Akeem Robinson joined the North Oaks Sports Performance team as Supervisor in 2021 with more than 12 years of experience. He came to North Oaks from Auburn University in Alabama, where he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the football program.

An athlete himself, Akeem earned bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management with minors in Communications and Sociology from Clemson University in South Carolina. He was a tight end for the Tigers’ football team, lettering every season and seeing play in four bowl games from 2005-2008. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Positive Coaching. He is currently working toward a doctorate in Strategic Leadership through Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.

Using the weight room as a platform to help others learn about life, Akeem and his team are making a difference in our community.

"I want to help others be at their best every moment that they are alive," shares Akeem.

Chappapeela Sports Park Executive Director Ryan Barker, shares, “Akeem’s contributions have been monumental in our tackle football program. He instills values into our student-athletes that will live with them forever. They are developing on the field and in life. He makes you believe in yourself. Our student athletes talk about him every day!”

Reflecting on Ponchatoula High School Lady Wave’s 2021-22 Championship Season, Head Basketball Coach Patricia Landaiche shares, “All of the odds were against us. We were facing the best team in the state with the best player in the nation at this game, but my girls were disciplined in every aspect. After two overtimes and a buzzer-beater, it was Ponchatoula who got to lift that trophy. I didn’t know what our best looked like until Akeem and the rest of the North Oaks Sports Performance team helped us get there.”

Akeem lives in Ponchatoula with his wife Allison. His favorite pastimes include reading, working out and watching sports and anime.

Professionally, he belongs to the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.

“Akeem has been instrumental in the significant growth of our cutting edge Sports Performance Program," affirms Vice President/Orthopedic Service Line Reagan Johnson. "Under his leadership, this program has touched roughly 250 high school athletes in both Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes, as well as individual athletes at our Sports Performance facility at Chappapeela Sports Park.”
