Ortho/Neuro Unit Charge Nurse Kayla has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for September 2020.
In 2014, Kayla joined the Ortho/Neuro Unit at North Oaks Medical Center as a Staff Registered Nurse and was promoted to Charge Nurse in 2016. With a desire to diversify her skills, she transferred to the OR as a Circulator, but ultimately, she returned to the Ortho/Neuro Unit as Charge Nurse in 2018, where she strives to make it a smooth day for patients and staff. She also helps to teach new hires and help them grow in skill.
“I’m proud of how we’ve handled 2020’s challenges. When we pull together, we can handle anything," Kayla shares.
Kayla followed in her mother and grandmother’s footsteps to become a nurse. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University.
“When my original dreams of dancing on Broadway didn’t pan out, I couldn’t imagine anything I wanted to do more than to be like the two greatest women in my life,” Kayla explains.
She lives in Roseland with her 10-year-old son Bronson.
Away from work, you can find Kayla cheering her son and five younger brothers along in their activities. She likes being “crafty,” and enjoys sewing and painting.
Professionally, she belongs to the American Nurses Association, Louisiana State Nurses Association and the Tangipahoa District Nurses Association.
