Letter from Internal Medicine Program Director
Dear Prospective Candidates,
Welcome! We are excited that you are interested in learning more about
our Internal Medicine Residency Program and North Oaks Medical Center
in general.
As a newer program, we have been steadily growing since our start, supported
every step of the way by a dedicated hospital leadership team and teaching
faculty who truly care about the success of our residents. North Oaks
Medical Center is a welcoming environment where residents not only receive
strong clinical training but also enjoy a culture of collegiality, collaboration,
and support. Our residents get along well with one another and contribute
to a caring, positive, and happy environment.
We place a strong focus on resident education. Formal teaching sessions
include three weekly noon conferences, covering case reports, journal
clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences, lectures from subspecialists,
and monthly wellness-focused lectures.
In addition, we host Morning Report three times each week, which fosters
clinical reasoning, case-based learning, and discussion of real patient
scenarios. Monthly wellness activities further ensure balance, resilience,
and a healthy work-life integration.
Our program is deeply rooted in serving both our local community and the
broader region. With a large catchment area, our residents care for a
highly diverse patient population with a wide spectrum of diseases and
conditions — an excellent foundation for learning and growth.
Beyond the hospital, residents enjoy the benefits of a small-town lifestyle
with the convenience of two major cities nearby. Both Baton Rouge and
New Orleans are within easy driving distance, offering access to cultural,
academic, and recreational opportunities. This unique setting offers the
best of both worlds: a close-knit community and the amenities of larger
metropolitan areas.
I am also a newer member of this community, having recently moved to southern
Louisiana myself. This area is full of history and culture, and it has
been a joy to experience the many celebrations, traditions, and cultural
events that make this region so vibrant and unique.
Our goals as a residency program are clear — to train strong, capable
residents who can practice autonomously, while placing a strong emphasis
on retaining physicians in our region. By preparing residents to deliver
excellent, independent care and encouraging them to remain in our community,
we aim to help address physician shortages and improve the overall health
of our population.
Thank you for your interest in our program. We invite you to continue exploring
our website to learn more about our curriculum and training opportunities.
If you are interested in applying, we look forward to reviewing your application
and to the possibility of welcoming you as a valued member of our team.
