Surgical Intensive Care Unit Staff Registered Nurse Joshua Honored with Nurse Excellence Award

Surgical Intensive Care Unit Staff Registered Nurse Joshua has received North Oaks Health System's Nurse Excellence Award for December 2022.

In 2016, while still in nursing school, Joshua joined the General Surgery Unit team as a Nurse Tech and transferred to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) in 2017. Upon graduation in 2018, he became a Registered Nurse on SICU. He currently works nights as a Relief Charge Nurse and Preceptor responsible for helping to train new staff members.

“In the SICU, we frequently take care of patients after traumatic injuries or emergent surgeries when they are most vulnerable,” Joshua notes. “It can be intense, but our teamwork is reassuring.”

After graduating from Covington High School, Joshua earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in New Orleans.

“I was drawn to nursing by my love of science and the opportunities it presents to make a difference for others,” explains Joshua. “Caring for patients and their families is so rewarding.”

Joshua has earned additional certifications in critical care through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and as a flight registered nurse through the Society of Trauma Nurses.

Madisonville is home to Joshua, his wife Kelsey, their nearly 2-year-old son David and newborn daughter Anna.

Joshua counts family time, fishing and running among his favorite pastimes.

“Joshua can be counted upon to use sound judgment and quickly pivot to address the needs of patients in our care," asserts Surgical Intensive Care Unit Clinical Nurse Manager Christy Morgan. "Our patients and their families consistently compliment his compassion, and his coworkers respect him and appreciate his commitment to teamwork.”
