Medicine Unit Staff Registered Nurse Krystal Receives Nurse Excellence Award

Medicine Unit Staff Registered Nurse Krystal has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for April 2022.

In 2020, the Medicine Unit team welcomed Krystal as a Nurse Tech, and she became a Staff Registered Nurse in 2021 after graduating from nursing school. She also serves as a Relief Charge Nurse and helps to train new nurses as a Preceptor.

“Empathy is key to understanding each patient’s perspective,” explains Krystal.

Krystal graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

“Nursing perfectly combines my interests in science and medicine,” shares Krystal. “I was made for nursing.”

Before nursing school, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Studies from Louisiana State University.

Krystal lives in Baton Rouge and enjoys playing with her dog, spending time with her nieces and exploring new places. Watching documentaries and reading also are favorite pastimes.

“Krystal’s continued growth as a Registered Nurse makes me proud," asserts Adult Acute Care Services Director Shana Hernandez. "I admire her compassion, engagement, flexibility, teamwork and commitment to our patients and to nursing. She reminds me daily of why we do what we do. She sets the bar high for our profession, and I am so honored to work alongside her.”
