Interventional Radiology Staff Registered Nurse Joanna Receives Nurse Excellence Award

Interventional Radiology Staff Registered Nurse Joanna has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for January 2022.

“Caring for my patients while keeping them informed every step of the way is my focus,” shares Joanna.

In 2002, Joanna joined the North Oaks team as a General Surgery Unit Secretary. After becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2007, she joined the Medicine Unit. She returned to the General Surgery Unit once she became a Staff Registered Nurse in 2015 and soon advanced to the role of Charge Nurse. She then spent some time as a Wound, Ostomy and Continence Registered Nurse on an as needed basis before accepting her current position as an Interventional Radiology Staff Registered Nurse in 2018. Joanna shares that what she loves most about her work is never seeing the same thing twice.

“It’s challenging and rewarding – especially with a team that feels like a family,” she adds.

As a child, Joanna shares that she always dreamed of becoming a nurse. Earning a diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing through Louisiana Technical Community College in Baton Rouge was a first step toward realizing her dream. Later, she graduated from Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit with an associate degree in Nursing.

She and her husband Antoine live in Loranger and have three children—Seth, who is 21; and 12-year-old twins Audrey and Austin.

Away from work, you can find Joanna horseback riding with her children or running 5Ks with friends. She also loves the occasional day beach trip and performing as a flutist with the Northlake Community Band through Southeastern Louisiana University’s community music school.

“Individuals like Joanna have a gift for truly caring for others," asserts Vascular Service Line Operational Director Casey Alford. "It’s not every day that you find someone always willing to lend a hand, share knowledge and learn more. She has a gift for putting patients at ease, and they ask for her because they look forward to her care.”
