Men, Take Time For A Tune Up

It’s no secret that men should pay more attention to their health. Much like keeping a vehicle in tip top shape by performing its routine maintenance, staying well depends on getting regular health check-ups and being in tune with your body.

Prostate health is particularly important, since prostate cancer is one of the major health risks men face. When caught early, it is treatable and potentially curable. So for Men’s Health Month in June, take time to learn about your prostate and how to keep it and your body running efficiently.

But first, what is a prostate? It’s a walnut-sized gland in men located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. It surrounds part of the urethra, which is the tube in the penis that carries urine from the bladder. It produces seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.

Pretty important job, don’t you think? It becomes even more important as you get older.

As men age, the prostate naturally grows. The most common prostate issue for men over 50 is an enlarged prostate. And, about 1 man in 8 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.

To stay ahead of these issues, see your urologist for regular check-ups.
