Ophthalmic Assistant Tysha Honored as Employee of the Month

Ophthalmic Assistant Tysha has received North Oaks Health System's Employee of the Month Award for September 2020.

Tysha joined the North Oaks Health System team in 2013 as a Patient Access Associate. In this capacity, she gained experience working at the medical center, surgery center, emergency department and diagnostic centers in Hammond and Livingston. In 2017, she joined the North Oaks Eye Care Clinic team in her current position of Ophthalmic Assistant. She also works as a Hospital Operator in PBX as needed.

“I don’t consider my job to be work. It’s a ministry of love,” shares Tysha.

The aspect of working for North Oaks that Tysha loves the most is interacting with patients and helping them navigate their healthcare needs as it pertains to the business of it all.

“The terminology can be confusing, and I’m glad to help clarify it,” she explains.

Tysha originally aspired to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from Destrehan High School. Instead, she ultimately entered the health care field. She is a certified healthcare access associate through the National Association of Healthcare Access Management. This spring, she hopes to embark on her “bucket list” goal of earning a college degree.

Tysha and her husband Harold, a.k.a. “Hollywood,” live in Laplace. Tysha shares that contributing as a member of the North Oaks team is her way of personally giving back all of the compassion and care her family received when Hollywood had emergency heart surgery at the medical center in 2010.

They have five children between them – Justin, 30, Brittany, 29, Harold Jr., 28, Tre, 18, and Tyvan, 16 – and two grandchildren – Taja, 11, and Brielle, 7.

As pastimes, Tysha enjoys crafting with her granddaughters, traveling, watching sports and cruising the town with Hollywood in their Corvette. Tysha, Hollywood and the Vette are featured in this blog as part of patient testimonial detailing her thyroid journey under the care of Dr. A. Mannan Khan of North Oaks Endocrinology.

A member of the Family Worship Center congregation in Baton Rouge, Tysha also volunteers with the National Kidney Foundation.

“We nominated Tysha because of who she is in her heart, what she does for others and the exemplary manner in which she represents North Oaks," affirms North Oaks Eye Care Clinic Practice Administrator Beth Richard. "She’s our ‘go-to superstar’ when it comes to assisting our providers, leadership, her coworkers and, most importantly, our patients! She will always step up to make life better for our patients. She truly lives up to our ‘improving lives’ mission!”
