Clinical Nurse Manager Carmen Krail Honored as Leader of the Quarter

Clinical Nurse Manager Carmen Krail has received North Oaks Health System's Leader of the Quarter Award for April-June 2020.

At age 7, Carmen remembers telling her mom that she wanted to be a nurse. Her aspirations became a reality in 1991, when she began working as a Registered Nurse in New Orleans. After moving to the Northshore in 1996, she joined North Oaks as a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Staff Registered Nurse. In 2004, she was promoted to Clinical Nurse Manager of Same Day Surgery, Pre-Admissions Testing and the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.

“I’m fortunate to work with the most compassionate and knowledgeable team around,” shares Carmen.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Louisiana State University School of Nursing in New Orleans and has been a certified post-anesthesia nurse since 2003.

Tickfaw is home for Carmen and her husband Gary. They have three sons --Gary Jr., Adam and Jeremy.

Family time is precious to Carmen. She loves making memories with her grandsons Benjamin, 9, and Brennan, 2. She also enjoys baking, reading and dreams of one day opening her own animal rescue.

Carmen has served as a team captain for the annual Northshore Heart Walk and volunteered at numerous North Oaks- and community-sponsored events through the years. She also participated in the Hammond Recreation Department adult softball league as a member of the “Code Blue” team.

“Helping others brings me joy and satisfaction,” she explains.

Professionally, she belongs to the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, Louisiana Association of Perianesthesia Nurses and the Louisiana State Nurses Association.

“Carmen is devoted to her team and creating the very best patient experiences alongside them," affirms Vice President of Emergency and Surgical Services. "She’s mastered the art of critical thinking and is a steadying force in the face of challenges and change.”
