Am I Drinking Enough Water?

Am I Drinking Enough Water?

With the hottest days of the year upon us, North Oaks Sports Medicine reminds you to stay hydrated. It is recommended to drink six or more 8-oz. glasses of water a day in order to avoid dehydration.

One way to tell if you’re dehydrated is by looking at the color of your urine. Use this Urine Color Chart as a guide.

Urine Color Chart

  • Properly hydrated: If your urine matches the colors 1, 2 or 3, you are properly hydrated. Even though you are properly hydrated make sure to continue to consume fluids at the recommended amounts.
  • Dehydrated: If your urine color is behind the red line, you are dehydrated and at risk for cramping and/or heat illness. You must drink more water.
  • Severely dehydrated: If your urine matches the colors 7 or 8, you are severely dehydrated. A symptom of severe dehydration is very little, dark, or cloudy urine. You should notify medical staff immediately if your urine is this color.
