North Oaks Sports Medicine Names Student-Athletes of the Month

The North Oaks Sports Medicine team is honoring Zachary Clark, Jamie Gibson, Devin King and Amber Landry as “Student-Athletes of the Month.”

Springfield High School’s Zachary Clark, a senior, has a 3.7 Grade Point Average (GPA). He plays shortstop on the baseball team and went five-for-six at the plate and pitched two shutout innings in the season’s first scrimmage, shares Head Baseball Coach John Pace. He recently accepted a baseball scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University and is being scouted by several Major League Baseball teams, Pace adds. He also runs track and plays football, a sport in which he was named All-District and All-Parish Athlete. The 18-year-old is the son of Allen and Dotti Clark.

Walker High School junior forward Jamie Gibson led the girls’ basketball team into the play-offs with a 29-4 record and No. 3 state ranking. She averages 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Head Girls Basketball Coach Korey Arnold notes that Gibson leads by example and has a “first-one-in, last-one-out” work ethic. She has a 3.0 GPA. The 16-year-old is the daughter of Greg and Shannon Gibson.

Devin King, a Jewel M. Sumner High School senior, is a member of the track and field team and is a role model for his peers, according to Coach Jay Stuckey. In March, he set the National High School Record in pole vault with a vault of 17 feet, 10 ¼ inches at the New Balance National Indoor High School Championships in New York. Despite a busy traveling schedule, he maintains a 3.1 GPA. The 18-year-old is the son of Floyd and Nicole King.

A Ponchatoula High School senior softball catcher, Amber Landry has been a starter for all 4 years of high school and has a 3.8 GPA. As a junior, she was named First Team All-District and has received honors each year she has played, according to Softball Coach Hollie Thompson. “She is an amazing young lady, showing character on the field at all times, and leading her teammates to excellence by always working hard.” Thompson adds. She recently signed with Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, and plays for the Louisiana Patriots, an elite summer softball team based in Baton Rouge. The 17-year-old is the daughter of Paul and Kim Landry.

From August 2013 to April 2014, North Oaks Sports Medicine staff and North Oaks Physician Group orthpaedic surgeons have chosen a male and a female student-athlete from Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes to honor for: having a 3.0 GPA or higher; excelling in athletic competition; participating in school and community organizations; and having earned the respect of coaches, teammates, officials, teachers and their peers.

In May, male and female “Student-Athletes of the Year” for each parish will be selected from all the monthly honorees.
