North Oaks Medical Center Recognized by Becker’s as a Great Community Hospital

Becker’s Hospital Review has recognized North Oaks Medical Center as one of the nation’s 100 “Great Community Hospitals” for 2025. This prestigious recognition celebrates hospitals that play a crucial role in advancing healthcare in their communities. North Oaks is one of only five hospitals in Louisiana to receive this distinction.

This national accolade highlights North Oaks Medical Center’s solid commitment and leadership when it comes to delivering expert care, driving innovation, strengthening the local economy, championing community health initiatives, and achieving outstanding patient experiences and clinical outcomes.

“Being named one of Becker’s ‘100 Great Community Hospitals’ is a tremendous honor and a testament to the unwavering dedication of our entire North Oaks team,” shares Michele K. Sutton, FACHE, President and CEO of North Oaks Health System. “This recognition reflects our deep commitment to advancing health equity, investing in our workforce, and delivering exceptional care to the communities we serve. We are proud to be a trusted healthcare partner and will continue to innovate and grow to meet the evolving needs of Southeast Louisiana.”

North Oaks Medical Center is a 330-bed independent hospital that has evolved over 65 years into a high-performing regional referral center. Serving nearly 1.3 million patients annually, North Oaks combines the responsiveness of a local hospital with the impact of a $2.7 billion economic engine, fueled by continuous investment in its workforce, infrastructure and technology.

The hospital is home to a Level II trauma center and primary stroke center. It was also recognized this year by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals for maternity care and by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of “150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare.”

In 2024, North Oaks launched a graduate medical education program aimed at strengthening the physician pipeline in underserved communities of Southeast Louisiana. This year, the hospital committed $12 million toward wage investments to enhance workforce satisfaction and retention. North Oaks also pioneered “Feeding Our Own,” Louisiana’s first hospital-based, non-perishable food pantry for patients and employees as part of its comprehensive approach to health.

North Oaks Medical Center is also expanding its footprint. Two new urgent care centers were acquired in May, bringing the total to four, and construction on a new $50 million, five-story outpatient clinic is nearing completion, while construction on a new rehabilitation and sports performance center is slated for early 2026 completion.
