Nurse Practitioner Lacy C. Mills, APRN, FNP-BC, has joined North Oaks Primary Care in Independence, a clinic of North Oaks Health System. She will treat new patients ages 12 and up starting in September. To schedule an appointment, call (985) 230-APPT [2778].
Mills comes to North Oaks with more than two decades of healthcare experience at hospitals and clinics in southeast Louisiana. She decided to practice at North Oaks because of its strong reputation as a top-tier employer in the healthcare industry.
Mills is a seasoned family nurse practitioner with a passion for preventative care, mental health and treating chronic conditions like diabetes. She enjoys helping her patients improve their health so they can enjoy their lives more fully.
“One of the most important aspects of practicing medicine is effective communication,” Mills shares. “By effectively communicating with my patients and collaborating with other healthcare specialists, I can help my patients achieve a better quality of life.”
“To be able to ease the suffering of another individual is the greatest honor,” she continues.
At North Oaks Primary Care’s Independence location, Mills will provide comprehensive care for families, from routine checkups and preventive screenings to treating everyday illnesses and helping manage long-term health conditions.
At the heart of her approach is understanding each patient as a whole person—not just the health issue that brings them into her exam room.
“Each patient is different, so each patient’s plan of care is tailored to their individual needs,” Mills explains.
Mills earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. She is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
In addition to her considerable healthcare experience, she has served as a part-time instructor for the BSN program at Southeastern Louisiana University’s School of Nursing.
Nurse practitioners are nationally certified, state-licensed medical professionals who can practice independently, working in close collaboration with their supervising physician.
North Oaks Primary Care in Independence is located at 230 Masonic Drive, Independence, LA 70443. Clinic hours of operation are 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays.
