Drs. Swetha Narla and Matthew Spano Receive the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award

North Oaks Internal Medicine Residents Swetha Narla, DO (pictured second from left), and Matthew Spano, DO (pictured second from right), have received the prestigious Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award and induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society through the Louisiana campus of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, their alma mater.

They are pictured above with North Oaks Graduate Medical Education Internal Medicine Residency Program Director John Wuthrich, DO, North Oaks Provider Services Director and VCOM Clinical Site Coordinator Stephanie Kropog, and North Oaks Chief Medical Officer Robert Peltier, MD.

Drs. Narla and Spano were nominated to receive this prestigious award by the third-year VCOM-Louisiana medical students they are teaching during clinical rotations at North Oaks Medical Center. The award recognizes medical professionals—including students, residents and faculty—who exemplify the human connection in healthcare through qualities such as compassion, respect and care.

Named after Arnold P. Gold, a pediatric neurologist and professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York, the award honors his legacy of promoting humanism in healthcare—essential for the well-being of patients and medical professionals. His work lives on through the Arnold P. Gold Foundation and its initiatives, including the Gold Humanism Honor Society of which Drs. Narla and Spano are now members. Membership in this honor society reflects a commitment to the same values celebrated by the award.
