Telemetry Unit Charge Nurse Gina Honored with Nurse Excellence Award

Telemetry Unit Charge Nurse Gina has received North Oaks Health System's Nurse Excellence Award for June 2022.

Gina joined the North Oaks team in 2015 as an Emergency Department Patient Care Tech. After becoming a nurse, she accepted a Staff RN position on the Telemetry West Nursing Unit. In 2019, she was promoted to a Charge Nurse position with Telemetry West on the night shift. She also serves on Telemetry West’s Unit-based Council and helps train new nurses as a Preceptor.

Gina earned an associate degree in Nursing from Delgado Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans. Her chosen career was inspired by her “Great-Great Aunt Gee,” who has the distinction of graduating with the first class of Charity School of Nursing in 1926.

“I honor her memory by maintaining the dignity of my patients,” affirms Gina. "Empathy is key to improving lives."

Gina resides in Covington and has four grown children—Jessica, Stoney and Caleb—and a 15-year-old daughter, Gracie Lynn.

Outside of work, Gina values time spent with her fiancé, children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. Whether it’s cookouts with extended family, or walks, bike rides, concerts and football games with her fiancé, or swimming with her grandchildren and watching them play ball, there is no place Gina would rather be.

“Gina’s dedication to North Oaks and sincere desire to foster a strong, supportive and uplifting work environment are just some of the reasons she stands out," asserts Telemetry West Clinical Nurse Manager Katherine Newell. "She is the literal definition of a devoted team player, patient advocate, teacher and mentor, who genuinely wants everyone to succeed.”
