Surgical Intensive Care Unit RN Candice Receives Nurse Excellence Award

Surgical Intensive Care Unit Staff Registered Nurse Candice has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for February 2022. 

In 2007, Candice joined the North Oaks Medical Center Telemetry Unit team as a Nurse Tech while in nursing school. After graduation from Southeastern Louisiana University, she became a Staff Registered Nurse and later took on more responsibility as a Charge Nurse for the Telemetry Unit. She went on to gain experience as an Observation Unit Charge Nurse before joining the Surgical Intensive Care Unit team in 2015.

As a Staff Registered Nurse, she also assists as a Relief Charge Nurse and Academic Preceptor for new team members to the unit.

“I love that North Oaks feels like family,” shares Candice.

During her childhood, Candice was inspired to pursue her chosen profession by the nursing care her grandfather received. 

“Making a difference in the lives of others is important to me,” shares Candice.

Candice and her husband Irvin live in Loranger with their 10-year-old son Damani.

Entertaining, family trips and play time with her dog Scooby are some of Candice’s favorite pastimes.

Professionally, she is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

“Candice has been a member of the North Oaks team for 14 years and is an excellent ambassador for the hospital and role model for new hires," affirms Clinical Nurse Manager Christy Morgan. "Providers, patients and their families are confident in her care and consistently compliment her for it. She truly personifies our mission to improve lives.”
