Andrea Legendre, PA-C, has joined North Oaks Orthopedic Specialty Center in Hammond as a Physician Assistant (PA).
Legendre will work alongside fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon Vince Lands, MD. As an orthopedic traumatologist, Lands specializes in complex trauma care and total joint replacement surgeries.
Physician Assistants are nationally certified, state-licensed medical professionals who practice on medical teams under the supervision of a physician. PAs are qualified to assist in surgery, take medical histories, conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, develop treatment plans, offer preventive care counseling, write prescriptions and round on hospitalized patients.
After graduating from Louisiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Human Movement and minor in Health Sciences, Legendre earned a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies through Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University (FranU). Prior to attending physician assistant school, she volunteered at New Orleans Medical Mission Services.
As part of her PA training, Legendre participated in various clinical rotations at hospitals and clinics across Louisiana. She completed rotations in behavioral health, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, primary care, women’s health and urology, but it was orthopedics and musculoskeletal medicine that resonated with her.
Legendre shares, “In the orthopedic field, I find that patients are eager to get back to doing what they love — whether that’s square dancing, playing with their children or grandchildren or running a marathon. I enjoy building relationships with them and helping them reach their goals.”
“As a provider who loves joint replacements, I am equally excited to have the opportunity to delve into the trauma aspect of orthopedics with Dr. Lands,” she continues.
Before becoming a PA, Legendre worked for four years in Baton Rouge as a certified clinical medical assistant for an orthopedic practice.
Professionally, Legendre is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Louisiana Academy of Physician Assistants and Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery.
