Telemetry Unit Staff Registered Nurse Michelle Receives Nurse Excellence Award

Telemetry Unit Staff Registered Nurse Michelle has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for March 2021.

In 2016, Michelle joined North Oaks Medical Center’s team as a Telemetry Unit Staff Registered Nurse. In 2020, she also began working on the Infusion Therapy Unit as needed. She fills in as a Telemetry Unit Relief Charge Nurse and is often entrusted to serve as an Academic Preceptor, quite often inspiring nursing students under her supervision to join the North Oaks team through her example. She is a past member of the IV Infiltrate Team and has contributed to the health system’s care planning enhancement efforts. Currently, she contributes as a member of the Competency Planning Committee and is secretary of the Telemetry North Unit-Based Council.

“Advocating for my patients is my utmost priority," shares Michelle.

Originally, Michelle aspired to become a dentist, but ultimately, she chose the field of nursing driven by the opportunity to play an important role in the healing process of patients recovering from illness or injury. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University.

She lives in her hometown of Covington with her 9-year-old daughter Ayanna.

Most of her free time is devoted to making memories with Ayanna, her extended family and friends. Crafting is her favorite hobby.

“Michelle is the definition of a team player and the ‘heartbeat’ of our nursing unit," asserts Population Health Manager Jesse Donahue. "Our staff love working with her because she is always willing to help, and patients consistently praise the excellent care she gives them. Her greatest skill, however, is her ability to guide new nurses to our team through the orientation process and develop a strong foundation.”
