Operating Room Charge Nurse Kit Receives Nurse Excellence Award

Operating Room Charge Nurse Kit Receives Nurse Excellence Award

Operating Room Charge Nurse Kit has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for January 2020.

From 2000 to 2002, Kit worked at North Oaks as a Rehabilitation Tech while in nursing school. She returned to North Oaks in 2005 as an Operating Room Staff Registered Nurse. Kit gives generously of her time mentoring new charge nurses, and she also contributes to the work of the Surgical Care Improvement, Op-Time Optimization and Operating Room Leadership Teams.

Upon receiving this recognition, Kit recounted a special story about her birth at North Oaks Medical Center nearly 40 years ago. In the month she was born, she was the 101st baby to arrive. There had never been 100 babies born at the hospital in one month before. To celebrate, Kit and the 100th baby born made headlines with a photograph in the local newspaper.

“It’s such an honor to be recognized again by the hospital for which I’m so proud to work,” Kit explains.

Kit earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University.

"I entered the nursing profession with the hope and desire to improve lives," shares Kit.

She lives in her hometown of Ponchatoula with her husband Nathan and their 4-year-old son, Everett.

“Improving lives in the community I grew up in makes nursing all the more enjoyable,” she explains.

“Kit demonstrates excellence every day as a Charge Nurse in the OR," affirms Susie Edler, Perioperative Services Director. "She is responsive to her coworkers’ needs and handles challenges with ease and a positive outlook. Recently, her peers commended her ability to simultaneously coordinate multiple trauma cases in the OR Suites.”
