North Oaks Mammography Services in Hammond and Livingston Earn American College of Radiology Gold Seal of Accreditation

The Digital Mammography Departments at North Oaks Diagnostic Center in Hammond and North Oaks-Livingston Parish Medical Complex in Satsuma have earned a 3-year Gold Seal of Accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Digital Mammography is a specific type of imaging that takes a low-dose X-ray picture of the breast to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases. Digital technology provides better visibility of the breast—particularly near the skin line or the chest wall, and in women with dense breast tissue.

There are two types of mammograms—screening and diagnostic—and both require a physician’s order. Screenings are used to help detect breast cancer when it may be too small to be felt. Diagnostic mammograms are performed if your physician believes there is the possibility of a problem and may take a little longer because more X-ray pictures are usually taken.

Digital mammography services at North Oaks offer:

  • Mammograms Performed by Certified, Licensed Mammography Technologists
  • Private, comfortable suites
  • An all-female staff
  • Speed and precision of digital technology
  • Study readings by Board-certified Radiologists
  • Computer-aided detection software offering a second look to help the radiologist identify suspicious areas
  • Results provided to the ordering physician within 48 hours.

The ACR Gold Seal of Accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report it can use for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving 36,000+ diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
