Flu season is here, and getting vaccinated is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself and the people you love. If you have questions about the flu shot, you're not alone. North Oaks Health answers some of the most common questions to help you make an informed decision about getting vaccinated this season.
When is the best time to get a flu shot?
While it is helpful to get your annual flu vaccine at any time during flu season, getting vaccinated earlier in the season improves your chances of staying flu-free.
Can the flu shot make you sick?
No. The shot can’t give you the flu, but mild side effects like soreness or low fever can
still happen.
How long does the flu shot last?
Protection lasts for the season. Because flu viruses change each year, a new shot is recommended each year to address the new strain variations
Is the flu shot safe?
Yes. It’s recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older, including pregnant women.
What is the difference between a regular vs. a senior flu shot?
Adults 65 years and older should get a high-dose or adjuvanted flu vaccine for
better protection.
