Operating Room Registered Nurse Team Leader Mitra Recognized with Nurse Excellence Award

Operating Room Registered Nurse Team Leader Mitra has received North Oaks Health System's Nurse Excellence Award for March 2023.

In 2002, Mitra joined the North Oaks Medical Center team as a Medicine Unit Staff Registered Nurse. She transferred to the Operating Room in 2005 and accepted her current job of Operating Room Team Leader for Orthopedics, Pain Management and Podiatry procedures in 2012.

“Since I was 12 years old, I have wanted to become a nurse,” notes Mitra. “I love helping others and enjoy the challenge of finding innovative ways to better meet the needs of my team and our patients. Creating a positive experience for every patient, every time is my goal.”

After completing an associate degree in Nursing from Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Mitra went on to graduate from Southeastern Louisiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. In addition, she earned and has maintained certification as an Orthopedic Nurse through the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses since 2011.

Mitra makes her home in Hammond and is a parishioner of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She has two sons –12-year-old Blaize, a rising seventh grader at Holy Ghost Catholic School, and 18-year-old Blayne, who is beginning his first year as a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Supporting her son’s sporting events, hunting with them, traveling, yardwork and just about any outdoor activity are among Mitra’s favorite pastimes.

Mitra has received the North Oaks Nurse Excellence Award once before in 2009. She also is a former Tangipahoa District Nurses Association “Tangi Top Nurses” award recipient. Professionally, she belongs to the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses through which she has maintained certification as an Orthopedic Nurse since 2011.
