LaSandra Barton, M.D., Joins North Oaks Pulmonology Clinic

Fellowship-trained and double board-certified Pulmonologist LaSandra Barton, M.D., will join North Oaks Pulmonology Clinic in Hammond effective March 13. To make an appointment with Dr. Barton, call North Oaks Pulmonology Clinic at (985) 230-2778.

Certified in Pulmonary Disease and Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Barton has practiced medicine on the Northshore and in the Greater New Orleans Area for nearly two decades.

As a pulmonologist, Dr. Barton specializes in diagnosing, treating and managing the care of patients with lung-related medical conditions that affect breathing, including: asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pneumonia. Dr. Barton also has a special interest in treating respiratory issues related to neuromuscular disorders, such as Muscular Dystrophy and ALS.

Dr. Barton first became interested in a medical career while working toward a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology at Xavier University in New Orleans.

“I began to migrate toward medicine because of my brother, who has Muscular Dystrophy,” Dr. Barton explains. “We were always in Pulmonology clinics for his care, and that ultimately sparked my interest in the specialty.”

In her specialty, Dr. Barton shares that her care philosophy centers on compassion and helping her patients have the best quality of life possible.

“I look at the whole patient – including the emotional aspects of his or her illness or disorder, their faith and belief systems,” she adds.

After graduating from Louisiana State University Medical Center, she completed both an internship and residency in Internal Medicine, as well as a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care through Charity Hospital/Medical Center of Louisiana – all in New Orleans.

Professionally, Dr. Barton is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, American Medical Association and American College of Physicians.

North Oaks Pulmonology Clinic is located in the North Oaks Clinic Building at 15813 Paul Vega, MD, Drive, Suite 401A in Hammond.
