General Surgery Unit Charge Nurse Hannah Receives Nurse Excellence Award

General Surgery Unit Charge Nurse Hannah Receives Nurse Excellence Award

General Surgery Unit Charge Nurse Hannah has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for May 2021.

Hannah joined the General Surgery Unit team at North Oaks Medical Center in 2018 as a Nurse Tech while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University.

“My passion for helping others and strong sense of empathy made me think nursing was the career for me, and I was right,” Hannah affirms.

After graduation from nursing school, she accepted a Staff Registered Nurse position on the General Surgery Unit. Soon after, she began assisting as a Relief Charge Nurse and Preceptor helping to orient new staff members.

“Our team is amazing. We are truly a family and enjoy working together, and I trust them with my life,” Hannah shares.

In 2020, her Charge Nurse role became permanent, and she completed the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators training necessary to become a member of the hospital’s Wound Prevalence Survey Team.

“Keeping it real with my patients and really listening to them are my keys to caregiving,” shares Hannah.

Away from work, Hannah’s priority is family time.

“Hannah’s patients praise her compassion and kindness, and her coworkers respect her as an expert team player always willing to make time to help," asserts Clinical Nurse Manager Brent Graham. "Above all, it’s her exceptional communication and listening skills that make her stand out.”

Ponchatoula is home for Hannah, her husband Jacob and their three daughters – Cadence, 15; Isabelle, 13; and Harper, 10.
