Lactation Registered Nurse Tasha Receives Nurse Excellence Award for September 2019

Lactation Registered Nurse Tasha has received the North Oaks Health System's Nurse Excellence Award for September 2019.

Tasha joined the North Oaks team 31 years ago as a File Clerk/Medical Records Tech working with birth certificates while a Southeastern Louisiana University student. In her final years of school, she gained experience as a Nurse Tech for Labor & Delivery and the nurseries.

“I knew I wanted to take care of babies from day #1 of nursing school,” she shares.

After graduating in 1995, she became a Staff Registered Nurse in the nurseries. She accepted her current position as a Lactation Registered Nurse in 1998.

"Helping improve the lives of our tiniest patients is the best part of my job," shares Tasha.

Tasha and her husband Lane live in Hammond and belong to Holy Ghost Catholic Church. They have three grown children – Tyler, Lauren and Londyn. Tyler and his wife Lila recently welcomed Tasha’s first granddaughter, Stella, who is now 6 months old.

Away from work, Tasha cherishes time with her family. They enjoy traveling and going to Louisiana State University sporting events to watch her daughters dance. (Lauren was a Golden Girl, and Londyn is a Tiger Girl.)

Tasha, who was a dancer herself growing up, laughs as she notes, “I guess you could say I birthed some good dancers!”

Professionally, Tasha is a member of the International Lactation Consultants Association.

“Tasha’s steadfast commitment to mothers and their infants is evident in the increasing number of women choosing to breastfeed and succeeding," asserts Clinical Nurse Manager Tamara Mitchell. "She takes a lot of pride in providing resources and encouragement to women along their breastfeeding journey and in promoting breast milk as ideal nutrition for growing babies.”
