Dr. Lon F. Alexander Joins North Oaks Neurosurgery Clinic

Fellowship-trained Neurosurgeon Lon F. Alexander, M.D., is accepting new patients at North Oaks Neurosurgery Clinic in Hammond. To make an appointment, call (985) 230-7400.

Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Alexander comes to North Oaks with nearly three decades of experience as a practicing neurosurgeon and clinical professor at facilities in Mississippi, including Forrest General Hospital, Rush Foundation Hospital, Central Mississippi Medical Center and the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Methodist Medical Center to name a few.

He specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment and rehabilitation of disorders of the entire nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Included also is the surgical and non-surgical treatment of back and neck disorders, including disc repair and reconstructive spinal surgery.

Alexander broke new ground as one of the first American neurosurgeons to participate in a yearlong exchange program with the former Soviet Union. The program enabled him to complete fellowship training in cerebrovascular surgery through Polenov Neurosurgical Institute in Leningrad. He also received fellowship training in Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery through Nagoya University School of Medicine in Nagoya, Japan.

He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed a residency in neurosurgery through the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He served as chief resident in his final year.

“My approach to patient care centers around loving what I do and feeling a distinct privilege that I get to do it,” notes Alexander, who has contributed to and served as a co-author for nine neurosurgery textbooks. “I embrace that daily, and the rest seems to fall into place.”

Alexander’s professional affiliations include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

North Oaks Neurosurgery Clinic is located in Suite 402 of the North Oaks Clinic Building at 15813 Paul Vega, M.D., Drive on the North Oaks Medical Center campus in Hammond. Clinic hours of operation are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.
