Doctors Dani Terrell and S. Garrett Whipple-Bones Join North Oaks Neurosurgery Clinic
North Oaks Health is delighted to welcome neurosurgeons Dani Terrell, MD, MPH, and S. Garrett Whipple-Bones, MD, to the North Oaks Neurosurgery Clinic in Hammond. They are accepting new patients ages 18 and up.

Dr. Terrell and Dr. Whipple-Bones both recently completed neurosurgical oncology fellowships at the Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa. Dr. Terrell specializes in robotic-assisted surgery and the treatment of complex brain and spine conditions, while Dr. Whipple-Bones specializes in advanced surgery for brain, spine, and nerve tumors. In addition to their specialties, they will also both practice general and emergency neurosurgery at North Oaks Health.

“The most rewarding aspect of being a neurosurgeon is being able to physically do something to positively affect a patient's outcome, whether it’s doing a spine surgery that allows the patient to walk again, or removing a brain tumor that has affected a patient's ability to move or speak,” she shares. “Being able to take a positive action that helps the patient and their family never gets old.”

Dr. Terrell is passionate about early intervention, patient education, and advancing highly specialized brain and spine tumor care in our community so patients can stay close to home while receiving the best care.

“There's no better feeling than being able to provide an excellent level of care for patients who need it, exactly when they need it,” she explains. “My deepest desire is for patients with neurosurgical pathologies to receive competent and compassionate care in a timely fashion.”

Dr. Terrell earned her undergraduate degree in biology-physiology with an emphasis on neuroscience from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and a master’s degree in public health from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She earned her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago in Chicago and completed her neurosurgery residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. During her residency, she co-authored the neuro-trauma protocol for Ochsner LSU Shreveport and co-founded the Ochsner LSU Neurosurgical Tumor Bank.

Dr. Whipple-Bones is passionate about treating cancer—especially brain tumors—and degenerative spine disease, along with improving patient outcomes by diagnosing and treating degenerative cervical spine disease early.

“Brain cancer treatment will drastically change in the next 10 years. Spine surgery is at the forefront of technological advances that make surgery safer and better tailored for each individual patient,” he explains. “I’m excited because this directly impacts my patients and, even more important, we are bringing those advancements to our patients here at North Oaks.”

Dr. Whipple-Bones earned his undergraduate degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport and his medical degree from Louisiana Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, during which he received the Dean Echols Award for Best Laboratory or Research Presentation from the Louisiana Neurosurgical Society and served as a Congress of Neurological Surgeons Resident Fellow for two years.

He is a current member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons.

Drs. Terrell and Whipple-Bones join other North Oaks Neurosurgery providers, neurosurgeon Edward “EJ” Burkhardt, and physician assistant Matthew Bruhn. They see patients at the North Oaks Neurosurgery Clinic, located at 15795 Paul Vega, MD, Drive, Building 3, Suite 202 in Hammond. Clinic hours of operation are 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays.
