Nurse Practitioner Carlos “Ruben” Mendoza Joins North Oaks Neurology

North Oaks Neurology Clinic in Hammond is expanding with the addition of Certified Family Nurse Practitioner Carlos “Ruben” Mendoza, FNP-C. To schedule an appointment, call (985) 230-APPT [2778].

Mendoza is now accepting adult patients, ages 18 and older. He specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of a wide variety of disorders that affect the nervous system, including: headaches, stroke, movement disorders and tremors, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

With five years of nursing experience gained at hospitals and health systems in San Antonio, Texas and across Southeast Louisiana, Mendoza worked as a clinic-based nurse practitioner in Lafayette before joining North Oaks. There, he worked in a variety of settings caring for patients of all ages – from orthopedics and postoperative care to critical stroke care and neurology.

“I have a big heart and have always enjoyed helping others,” asserts Mendoza. “Having the opportunity to help my patients regain or stabilize their health and maintain their functional independence as much as possible motivates me every day.”

Mendoza earned a master’s degree in Nursing through the accelerated nursing-to-advanced-practice program offered by Herzing University in New Orleans. He is certified as a family nurse practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

He holds two bachelor’s degrees, including one in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and another in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

Nurse Practitioners are nationally certified, state-licensed medical professionals who can practice independently.
