Interventional Cardiologist Georges Khoueiry, M.D., FACC, Joins North Oaks Cardiovascular Services

Fellowship-trained and board-certified Interventional Cardiologist Georges Khoueiry, M.D., FACC, has joined North Oaks Cardiovascular Services. Khoueiry will practice at North Oaks Cardiology in Hammond and is accepting new patients. To make an appointment, call (985) 230-7350.

Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Khoueiry is no stranger to North Oaks and the Hammond community. For the past eight years, he has belonged to the North Oaks Medical Center medical staff and cared for area patients as a physician in a private practice. Now as the newest member of the North Oaks Cardiovascular team of employed providers, Khoueiry shares that he is looking forward to helping to grow the advanced Interventional Cardiology program.

As a subspecialty of Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology involves catheter-based, minimally-invasive treatment of damaged or weakened blood vessels, narrowed arteries or other parts of the heart which can occur as a result of coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease or heart valve disease.

“Everyone’s cardiovascular issues are unique. Some people require aggressive treatment while others benefit from a more conservative approach,” explains Khoueiry. “With interventional cardiology and the advanced resources we have at North Oaks, we are able to make an immediate impact on someone’s health condition that can improve their outcome and, ultimately, their life.”

After earning a medical degree from the Lebanese University School of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon, Khoueiry completed an internship, residency as chief resident and fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease through Staten Island University Hospital in New York. He then completed a second fellowship in Interventional Cardiology through Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, where he also was a faculty member. In addition to his certifications through the American Board of Internal Medicine, Khoueiry is certified in Echocardiography through the National Board of Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology through the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and Physician Vascular Interpretation through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Professionally, Khoueiry belongs to the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology.

In addition, Khoueiry is passionate about clinical research to advance standards of care. He is a past editor-in-chief and reviewer for Heart & Lung: The Journal of Acute and Critical Care, a past reviewer for Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Disease Journal and past presenter for the American Heart Association 50th Joint Conference for Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology, Prevention, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism. Throughout his career, he also has co-authored numerous peer review journal pieces with colleagues worldwide -- including fellow North Oaks Cardiology Clinic physician Nidal Abi Rafeh, M.D., FACC -- for publications like: American Journal of Hypertension; Cellular Reprogramming; Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology; Echocardiography (a Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging and Intervention); European Heart Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging; Journal of Healthcare Quality; Journal of Vascular Access; Journal of Women’s Health; Heart, Lung Vessels Journal; and World Journal of Cardiology.

“We are investing in the future of cardiology at North Oaks – from team members and training to technology and systems – so we can provide advanced heart health care to our community,” affirms Erica Williams, vice president of the health system’s cardiovascular service line. “Dr. Khoueiry is a great addition to our growing program, as he brings valued expertise in complex interventional cardiology to help people living with heart disease.”

Khoueiry will see patients at North Oaks Cardiology, located in the North Oaks Clinic Building at 15813 Paul Vega, MD, Drive, Suite 403 in Hammond.

Other North Oaks Cardiology providers include: Drs. Nidal Abi Rafeh, Jherie D. Ducombs, Bruce Ennis, William P. Kopfler and James M. Parker; and Nurse Practitioners Kristen King, Erickia LeMeunier and Maia McLin.
