Echocardiography at North Oaks Earns IAC Reaccreditation

Echocardiography services offered through North Oaks Health System have been reaccredited for three more years by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). North Oaks has held IAC accreditation since 1999.

Locations include North Oaks Cardiology Clinic and North Oaks Heart Health Center, which is located within North Oaks Medical Center.

“Echocardiography is a type of ultrasound used to detect heart disease or signs of other serious conditions, such as stroke,” explains Dr. James Parker, cardiologist and medical director of echocardiography services at North Oaks. “The training and experience of our technologists, the type of equipment used and the quality assessment metrics we are required to track all contribute to positive patient experiences.”

IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” patients can rely on as a measure of consistent quality care and dedication to continuous quality improvement. Reaccreditation signals that North Oaks has undergone an intensive application and review process and is found to be in compliance with published Standards at all locations that provide vascular ultrasound services.

Cardiovascular disease, which is disorders of the heart and blood vessels, is the No. 1 cause of death in the U.S., followed closely by stroke, a disorder of the blood supply to the brain, as the fourth highest cause of death. According to the American Heart Association, more than 2,150 Americans die each day from cardiovascular disease, which amounts to about one death every 40 seconds.
