[HAMMOND, La.] – More than 200 guests turned out Thursday, Aug. 25 to welcome Dr. Anthony D. Haase III of Loranger to North Oaks Primary Care Clinic—Independence.

The celebration, held from 5 -7 p.m. at the newly renovated clinic, was sponsored jointly by the Town of Independence and North Oaks Health System, and included a ribbon cutting and open house. The Rev. Howard Adkins of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church offered the invocation, and the Independence High School U.S. Air Force Junior ROTC Color Guard presented the Colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The program featured remarks from North Oaks Board of Commissioners Chairman Guy Recotta Jr., Dr. Haase, North Oaks President/CEO James E. Cathey Jr. and Independence Mayor Michael Ragusa, who expressed how much the reopening of the clinic full-time means to the community. Punctuating the program were remarks offered by Kathryn Anzalone, wife of the late and beloved Dr. F. Fanancy “Snow” Anzalone, who originally opened the clinic and practiced there for nearly 50 years until his passing 2 years ago. She expressed how happy she was that the community had come together to help with the celebration and give Dr. Haase such a warm welcome. “It’s a wonderful tribute to my husband and our family,” she explained.

Following the ribbon cutting, guests visited and celebrated with refreshments provided by the town, tours of the clinic and a teddy bear first aid activity for the children.

North Oaks Executive Vice President/COO Michele Sutton noted, “When we first met with Dr. Haase, he shared that he wanted to return to his hometown, and we were thrilled. We are truly humbled and appreciative of the overwhelming support and warm welcome extended to him by the Town of Independence and surrounding communities.”

With a double specialty in pediatrics and internal medicine, Dr. Haase not only diagnoses and treats common illnesses, but also can manage complex health concerns, as well as provide preventative care for entire families (age 6 and up). A self-described “local boy” who moved to Loranger with his family as a teenager, he made a promise to come back and serve his community after medical school. Dr. Haase earned a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in Biological Sciences/Chemistry before earning his medical degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his internship and residency through the LSU Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program in New Orleans.

When asked what attracted him to practicing in Independence, Dr. Haase points to the privilege of caring for his neighbors and friends. “There is no equal to these relationships,” he explained. “I know what’s cooking on Sunday for some of my patients, I get to find out how the steers are doing at market, and I’m getting to catch up with old friends still in the area.”
