Mission and Goals

Mission Statement

Dedicated to Improving Lives, Every Time and with Every Touch

Our Mission

The mission of North Oaks’ Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train outstanding internists dedicated to improving the health of our patients and communities. We foster an environment that promotes wellness for both our healthcare providers and patients, integrating the diverse backgrounds and life experiences of our residents, staff and faculty.

Our program is committed to improving access to high-quality, cost-effective healthcare, especially in rural and underserved areas. This is achieved by using inter-professional teams and advanced technology. We aim to be the region’s most trusted partner in graduate medical education, emphasizing exceptional quality, safety and patient experiences, and adhering to our core values: communication, compassion, courtesy and commitment.

Our Goals

Our program is designed to prepare residents for real-world practice in their chosen community setting. We are committed to providing a comprehensive education that equips our residents to:

  • Practice comprehensive internal medicine, focusing on excellent clinical skills and patient-centered, culturally aware, high-value care

  • Either pursue subspecialty training or practice primary care or hospital medicine, as desired

  • Understand and engage in clinical, patient safety and quality improvement research

  • Lead and participate in quality initiatives that promote optimal systems-based care

  • Commit to life-long learning and teaching

  • Demonstrate compassion for patients, respect for healthcare team members and empathy for the community, with a particular focus on the underserved

  • Collaborate with and competently lead interdisciplinary teams

  • Apply public health principles and utilize community resources to manage the health of populations and individual patients

  • Prioritize self-care and maintain personal physical and mental wellness
