North Oaks Sports Medicine Recognizes April Student-Athletes

North Oaks Sports Medicine athletic trainers teamed up with North Oaks Physician Group orthopedic surgeons to select Hunter Stanley, Kayla Sanchez, Kyle Baudoin and Jessica Gregoire as Student-Athletes of the Month for April.
Hunter Stanley is a junior at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School in Hammond, where he is a third-year member of the baseball team. He has pitched 16.2 innings and has a 2-1 record with 22 strikeouts and a 0.42 ERA. In batting, he has a 350 average with 23 RBIs, 18 runs and 9 steals. Stanley also is a third-year member of the football team.
“Hunter makes coaching fun,” shares Barrett Morgan, head baseball coach. “You never have to worry if he’s giving you everything he’s got or if he hasn’t done his school work. He represents our school perfectly in every manner.”
The 17-year-old maintains a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society and Ambassadors.

Kayla Sanchez, 18, is a senior at Jewel Sumner High School in Kentwood. She plays infield on the softball team, a position she has held for 4 years. Sanchez holds a .368 batting average with 21 singles, 8 doubles and 3 home runs.
Kayla maintains a 4.0 GPA, is a member of the Beta Club and was selected as the 2014-2015 Jewel Sumner High School Student of the Year. She also serves on the Leadership Council at East Fork Baptist Church. Kayla was named one of seven “Top Guns,” by the Amite Tangi-Digest and The Kentwood News-Ledger, for demonstrating accountability and leadership in the school system and around the community.

Kyle Baudoin is an 18-year-old senior at Walker High School, where he has been a sprinter/pole vaulter on the track & field team for the past 4 years.
At this year’s Livingston Parish Championship Meet hosted by Denham Springs High School, Kyle was Parish Champion in pole vault with a personal best of 16’4” and also was runner-up in the 100m dash for his personal best of 11.2 seconds. He also has participated in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics for the past 3 years.
Kyle maintains a 4.0 GPA and is senior class president, a school ambassador and a member of the Beta and Math Clubs. He has signed with the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
“Kyle does an outstanding job of balancing academics and sports,” notes teacher and Head Track & Field Coach Will Silk. “He is an academic tutor for other students and does a great job encouraging younger athletes when volunteering at middle school and elementary school meets in our area. He also scored a 30 on his ACT test.”

Jessica Gregoire, 18, is a senior at Springfield High School, where she is in her third year as captain of the softball team and has held the position of catcher for 4 years. She also is a 4-year member of the volleyball team and has been a cheerleader for 2 years. Jessica holds a .285 batting average and leads the team with 3 home runs. She has a fielding percentage of .951 and has thrown out 10 base runners this year.
“Jessica is a highly involved student-athlete,” affirms Head Softball Coach Olivia Myers. “She has great school spirit and participates in many extracurricular activities. She has demonstrated excellent leadership skills throughout her time at Springfield High School both on and off the field. She has been a model student and helps tutor others when asked.”
Jessica maintains a 3.814 GPA and has belonged to many organizations throughout her high school years, including: Beta Club, the Outdoors Club, ProStart, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Future Farmers of America (FFA). She also participated in track for 2 years.

Each month of the school year, North Oaks Sports Medicine staff and North Oaks Physician Group orthopedic surgeons choose a male and a female student-athlete from both Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes as “Student-Athletes of the Month.”
Nominations are accepted from coaches, athletic directors and principals. Athletes must:
- excel in athletic competition
- have a 3.0 grade point average or higher
- participate in school/community organizations
- respect coaches, teammates, officials, teachers and their peers.
At the end of the school year, “Student-Athletes of the Year” are selected for both parishes from all monthly honorees.
