Check your Neck: Thyroid Cancer Awareness

September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. Our primary care, endocrinology and ear, nose and throat (ENT) providers, all encourage you to check your neck. A thyroid neck check helps locate lumps or enlargements that may be related to thyroid conditions like nodules, goiter or cancer.

Follow these 4 easy, self-check steps.

  1. Look in a mirror at the lower front area of your neck.

  2. Tip your head back.

  3. Take a sip of water and swallow.

  4. As you swallow, look for any bulges or protrusions.

If you notice anything abnormal, contact your health care provider. Our board-certified endocrinologists at North Oaks Endocrinology Clinic help diagnose, manage and treat thyroid conditions such as thyroid nodules and cancer, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's disease, goiter and Graves' disease.
