Update: May 8, 2020

  • It’s Friday, May 8th. Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms on Sunday!
  • State Stats: 30,652 COVID-19 cases reported, with 2,135 deaths and 20,316 presumed recovered. There are 1,432 hospitalized COVID patients, with 189 on vents.
  • The Governor has planned a press conference for Monday to give an update on ramping up the economy. We’ll be listening in to see how North Oaks may be impacted.
  • North Oaks Stats: We have 17 COVID-19 positive cases in house, 0 PUI, and 2 vented patients. One patient was extubated yesterday, and there was 1 death. We successfully discharged another 8 COVID patients since Wednesday, bringing our total to 142 patients.
  • Employee wellness reports 12 staff out monitoring symptoms and 2 being evaluated to return to work today.
  • Population health reports 49 calls yesterday with 8 video visits. There are 38 patients scheduled for the drive through testing station today, with six in the queue.
  • The OR has 20 cases today and 72 already scheduled for next week.
  • WALK-IN CLINIC HOURS CHANGE: Hammond Walk-in clinic will resume it’s normal hours starting today. M-F 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. and S/S 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Walker Walk-in will continue to close at 5 p.m. M-F, and will be open 8-4 on Saturday. Ponchatoula hours remain 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. M-Sat.
  • Kana reports that myChart telemed training is complete. Volume in the clinics is slowly increasing, and no-show rates are very low.
  • The PAC (x. 2778) is going to be closed on the weekend due to low volume. That number will roll to the COVID-19 clinical team to provide coverage through the weekend.
  • Michael reports no issues with supplies – we are managing carefully as non-COVID volume ramps up.
  • Michele and Dr. Rob Peltier will be sitting on Parish President Robby Miller’s committee that is discussing how to safely reopen Tangipahoa Parish.
  • Many thanks to Dr. Peltier, Jeff Jarreau and Amanda Morse for representing North Oaks so well on this week’s Greater Hammond Chamber of Commerce zoom meeting for businesses on how to safely conduct business in the new normal.
  • Public Relations is Everyone’s Responsibility. PLEASE set a good example for patients and other staff by wearing your mask correctly and observing social distance while standing in line at PJs or in the cafeteria! Not only does this keep everyone SAFE, but it builds trust that North Oaks does the right thing. We’ve built HUGE social capital during this crisis – let’s work hard to keep that ball rolling!
  • This Saturday (tomorrow), Mary Bird Perkins and Downtown Yoga are partnering to host their Geaux Yoga event at 9 am. Downtown Yoga and Mary Bird will be streaming the 30 minute yoga class simultaneously via Facebook Live on both of their pages. The online event is FREE for anyone to participate. Tune in and take a few deep cleansing breaths!
  • As we continue to migrate our way through the struggles of a national pandemic please remember support is available from the Employee Assistance Program(EAP). The EAP provides (4) FREE counselling sessions “per incident” and is available to you as an employee as well as any dependents living in your household free of charge. EAP representatives are available (24/7) by phone or for one-to-one counseling to assist with stress, anxiety and bereavement counselling as needed.
