Update: March 30, 2020

Updated 10:32 a.m., 3/30/20

  • Happy Doctor’s Day! Today more than ever we are grateful to have you at North Oaks!
  • The State of Louisiana reports 3,540 COVID-19 patients, with 1,127 in the hospital and 380 on ventilators. The virus is present in 59 of 64 parishes.
  • Dr. Newman reports that we have 20 patients under investigation, and 19 inpatients who have tested positive for COVID-19; 11 of those 19 are on ventilators. We have completed 400 tests since March 13th, with 43 positives, 270 negatives and 87 pending.
  • Employee wellness reports 32 staff are currently isolating and about 200 are being monitors for possible exposure.
  • Employees who work in patient care areas should mask while in the hospital. Be sure you dispose of masks before you leave the facility (don’t wear them to your car).
  • It will be a busy day for drive-through screening. We have 50 appointments already and anticipate adding patients. We anticipate having a sufficient number of tests to continue drive through screening tomorrow.
  • Please continue to watch utilization of resources, masks especially.
  • Dr. Peltier reminds clinical teams to coordinate care when working with PUIs or COVID-19 positive patients. This limits exposure and use of PPE. He also shared some very positive feedback from a COVID-19 positive patient who was treated at North Oaks – the patient couldn’t say enough nice things about the staff and the care he received.
  • Remember that many heads are sometimes better than one. Please feel free to call on subject matters experts for help with any issues.
  • The LHA has started weekly calls, as has Region 9. If you have any agenda items you would like included, please let Michele know.
  • Staff are analyzing the Federal COVID-19 Relief Plan and will provide info on Oaklink as details become available.
  • Please remember that COVID-19 is not a joking matter – although humor is often a way to relieve stress, please be mindful that it isn’t appreciated by everyone in these anxious times.
  • The Drew Brees Foundation is going to provide meals for kids at Bright Horizons this week.
  • Dr. Sheehan (ED physician) was interviewed this weekend by Dr. Oz.
  • No issues with visitors access.
  • Work is progressing on myChart telehealth functionality – testing will be occurring this week.
  • Population health had about 120 calls this weekend, with 50 video visits.
  • Infection Prevention urges care in disinfecting rooms with patients in isolation. Bleach must be used for cases of c-diff and other infections. If you have any questions on appropriate cleaning materials, please call Infection Prevention.
  • Numbers are down in clinics. Leaders, please be sure you are flexing as volume continues to be significantly below average.
  • Please continue to check Oaklink and the COVID-19 toolkit for the latest updates from Dr. Newman and Infection Prevention. Things are still very fluid so please avoid printing and posting materials.
