Update: April 6, 2020

Updated 12:05 p.m., 4/6/2020

  • It’s Monday, April 6, 2020. Today is the last day for the Emergency Relief Plan PTO buyback.
  • State Stats: As of this morning, there are 13,010 confirmed cases of COVID-19 patients in 61/64 parishes, with 477 deaths. There are 1,801 hospitalized patients, with 561 on vents.
  • North Oaks Stats: We have 36 COVID-19 positive patients in-house, along with 17 patients under investigation. Twelve patients are on vents. We’ve performed 875 tests, with 204 positive and 31 pending as of today. There are 70+ in the queue for drive-through testing as of this morning.
  • The Population Health team fielded 120 calls this weekend and did 43 video visits. We had 66 patients come to the walk-in clinics.
  • Employee Health reports that 71 employees are home with symptoms and are self-isolating. Please notify employee wellness if you go home sick (x. 5706). Leaders, if you send someone home sick, please also report this to employee wellness.
  • Infection Prevention is asking everyone to please wear hospital-supplied PPE using guidance from the CDC. Wearing a yellow mask over an N-95 is not appropriate. If both masks are disposable, both need to be removed when you exit the room. For specific guidelines, please consult the COVID-19 toolkit or call Infection Prevention.
  • Dr. Rob Peltier reminds staff using their own reusable masks that you must clean them after each use, and you should avoid touching them with your hands. Do not lay on solid surfaces or by computer keyboards where others may become exposed.
  • We received several shipments of supplies this weekend. Note that COLORS OF MASKS AND GOWNS MAY CHANGE, but the protection level is the same.
  • We are working with local vendors to increase supply of home-made cloth masks for staff to wear off-duty.
  • Visitor Access Clarification: Patients discharged on Saturday or Sunday should be discharged through the Tower Lobby. The Main Entrance (Signature Building) will be closed if no patients are scheduled for outpatient testing.
  • Mark reported on the financial impact of our decreased volumes. In response, leaders are reassessing staffing needs. Federal relieve packages will help, but payments are expected to lag by months.
  • myChart video visit rollout continues. Testing with Dr. C. Ducombs was successful on Friday, and three more physicians will come on-line this week.
  • We expect our “Healthcare Hero” signs to be delivered tomorrow. Look for pickup instructions from marketing/communications tomorrow.
  • Community support continues to be awesome. In addition to meals, on Friday and Saturday night we enjoyed a lovely parking lot ceremony where members of the community expressed their support from their cars.
  • If you know any local businesses that would like to donate food, please refer them to the PR Department at (985) 230-6647 where they can leave a message. We will get back to them to make the appropriate arrangements. We are scheduling donations out so we aren’t overwhelmed on one day or in one department. And, unfortunately, for the safety of our staff, we cannot accept food made in private kitchens.
