Fellowship-trained and board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon Charles DiCorte, M.D., has joined North Oaks Cardiovascular Services in Hammond and is accepting new patient referrals for Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery. To make an appointment, call (985) 230-7350.
Dr. DiCorte received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He completed an internship in General Surgery at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama and a residency in General Surgery at Ochsner Clinic and Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans. He then completed fellowships in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Heart and Lung Transplantation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. A native of Louisiana, Dr. DiCorte has practiced on the Northshore for the last 24 years.
As the newest member of the North Oaks Cardiovascular Services team of employed providers, Dr. DiCorte shares, “Until recently, the cardiovascular surgeons staffing North Oaks Medical Center also covered several other Northshore facilities. Now, we will be able to more efficiently and effectively devote our time solely to patients at North Oaks, enabling residents of Tangipahoa and surrounding parishes to receive more focused care — especially for lung cancer, coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.”
Thoracic and cardiovascular surgery describes any surgical procedure that involves the lungs, chest, heart or the blood vessels that carry blood to and from the heart. Some of these conditions require open surgery, but many conditions can now be treated with less invasive procedures, such as robotic surgery and endovascular surgery. It is common for lung cancer, heart disease, heart attack, aneurysm and stroke patients to require these types of procedures.
Dr. DiCorte notes, “It’s important that my patients understand their options and choose how they obtain their care. I like to lay out all of the options, the pros and cons of each, and my recommendation to ensure they are involved in their health care decisions.
“I feel privileged to be allowed and trusted to provide life-changing and sometimes life-saving surgery for my patients,” Dr. DiCorte continues. “As a surgeon, I believe that I am able to make an immediate positive impact on the health of the patients who entrust their care to me, and together with their primary care physicians, cardiologists, and pulmonologists, I can improve people’s lives and health.”
He adds, “My fellowship training was excellent and encompassed every aspect of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. I continue to build upon my training and evolve as a surgeon by embracing emerging techniques and technology, such as robotic surgical procedures, to enhance the care and options that I can provide my patients.”
Professionally, Dr. DiCorte is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and the American Medical Association.
“Enhancing our ability to provide advanced heart health care in our region is a top priority for North Oaks Health System as demonstrated by ongoing investments in our team, technology and systems,” affirms Mark Anderson, chief financial officer of North Oaks Health System. “We are fortunate to have Dr. DiCorte on our team helping people living with acute and chronic heart conditions through his talents and expertise.”
Dr. DiCorte will see patients at North Oaks Cardiovascular Services, located in the North Oaks Clinic Building at 15813 Paul Vega, MD, Drive, Suite 403 in Hammond.
