Patients receive a complete mental and physical diagnostic evaluation to help secure an accurate diagnosis. During treatment, the focus is on:
- Medication regulation
- Psychotherapy
- Intervention for behavioral symptoms
- Rehabilitative services specific to seniors
The Senior Care program actively involves the patient in a number of individual and group therapeutic activities:
Therapy with the M.D.:
Patients meet with the Senior Care psychiatrist at least once a week in both group and individual settings to closely monitor the patient’s response to medication and treatment.
Group Therapy:
Group Therapy provides an outlet for interactions between patients and the opportunity to improve mental functioning. Therapists assist the patients in overcoming defenses and addressing their issues.
Occupational Therapy:
Occupational Therapy is provided on an as-needed basis to help the patient become as independent as possible.
Recreational Therapy:
Recreational Therapy creates patient involvement in therapeutic activities, such as: art, activities of daily living (ADL’s), relaxation training, communication skills, reality orientation, exercise, movement, mental activation and an overall awareness of lifestyle activities.
Creative Expression Therapy:
This type of therapy utilizes movement, sound and reminiscence. By stimulating memories from the past, the patient is encouraged to recall and then communicate moods, feelings and attitudes about life on a verbal and non-verbal level.
Family Meetings:
The purpose of family meetings is to increase the family’s insight into the problem associated with the patient’s illness.
Speech Therapy:
Speech Therapy will be provided on an as-needed, individual basis for evaluation and treatment of speech and swallowing problems.
Physical Therapy:
Physical Therapy will be provided on an as-needed, individual basis to increase the patient’s strength, functional ability and independence in activities of daily living.
Therapy with Psychologist:
Patients meet with a psychologist once a week for group sessions and on an individual basis for testing and scoring of changes in mood, behavior and memory.
