Located at North Oaks Medical Center The units that form Critical Care Services treat North Oaks Medical Center's most seriously ill patients. From the smallest premature infant to the senior adult hospitalized with multiple systems failure, the Critical Care staff comprises some of the area's most highly skilled caregivers.
ADULT CRITICAL CARE UNITS:
Intensive Care Unit – ICU
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at North Oaks Medical Center is a specially designed unit staffed by highly skilled nursing professionals who provide care for patients requiring constant observation and nursing care. The ICU, which was relocated and expanded in 1998, features 18 private rooms that offer the patient and his/her loved ones a comfortable balance between a sense of warmth and the reassurance provided by advanced medicine. At North Oaks, the needs of the ICU patient's family are addressed as well, through a pleasant and spacious waiting area, with seating arranged in small groups for family privacy.

INFANT CRITICAL CARE UNITS:
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – NICU
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at North Oaks Medical Center is designed to provide for the special needs of the hospital's smallest patients. With advanced equipment and personnel trained in the care of babies born prematurely or with other health problems, the unit has the capabilities to successfully care for infants weighing less than two pounds. In addition to a highly trained staff, the NICU team also includes a full-time neonatologist, assuring parents that, should the need arise, special care is close to home.
The North Oaks NICU has earned the rank of being among the top 25% in the U.S. according to the prestigious Vermont Oxford Study in their review of patient outcomes in selected areas.
